Government – Enterprise Wide ICT Strategy for the ABC

Frazer Walker was engaged by the CIO to assist the ICT Steering Committee (Chaired by the ABC Managing Director) to develop a comprehensive and consistent information and communication technology strategy and roadmap

The Challenge

The challenge was to engage and involve senior management across the 16 ABC divisions in an enterprise wide planning process that would secure ongoing commitment to an ICT Strategy that recognised divisional and ABC-wide needs, the business imperatives and the funding constraints

Our Work

A two-stage process was adopted so that the ICT Steering Committee could ensure the planning was realistic and owned by the ABC divisions

The first stage “ICT Strategy Scoping” was designed to ensure that the business needs and current projects, along with the benefits and difficulties of developing an ICT Strategy for the ABC, were clear and used to inform the next stage

The second stage “ICT Strategy Development” identified the business strategic goals over two, five and ten year horizons. These were used to develop an ICT strategic plan focused on ensuring the key strategic ICT disciplines and capabilities required to support the business were in place. Critical to the success of the planning process was a series of workshops designed to enable the Divisions to identify and recognise shared ownership of the ABC-wide technology needs, priorities and benefits

The Outcome

The full ICT Strategy comprised of Business Technology Roadmaps, Strategic ICT Challenges and the ICT Strategic Plan was accepted and approved by the Managing Director, the ICT Steering Committee and the 16 Divisional Directors
